WHO WE ARE

Our History, Our Vision, Our Progress

BGVA Main Street is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to preserving and revitalizing historic downtown Bowling Green, Virginia—one project,

one partnership, and one milestone at a time.

BGVA Main Street is a volunteer-driven nonprofit preserving and revitalizing downtown Bowling Green, Virginia — one project, one partnership, and one milestone at a time. For decades, our Main Street has been more than a place to shop; it's where neighbors run into each other, where local history lives in the buildings around us, and where small businesses take root and grow.

As a Main Street America Affiliate program, we bring a proven, preservation-first approach to everything we do — investing in storefronts, supporting the people behind them, and building the events and traditions that keep our downtown active year-round.

This page is where our story lives: how we got here, what we're working toward, and the milestones marking our progress along the way.

OUR STORY

Making history happen every day

On any given Saturday morning, the sidewalks of Bowling Green hum with small‑town energy. Families stroll past historic storefronts, the scent of coffee drifts from Main Street cafés, and local shop owners greet customers by name. Behind this charming scene is the quiet but powerful work of the BGVA Main Street affiliate—a team dedicated to revitalizing the town's core while preserving its unique character.

When Bowling Green joined Virginia Main Street's network of affiliated communities, it marked a pivotal step in shaping a shared vision for the future. The BGVA Main Street affiliate wasn't just about sprucing up shop windows or planning events—it was about creating momentum for sustainable, locally driven growth. Volunteers, business owners, and town leaders came together with a single goal: to make Main Street not just a destination, but a reflection of the town's pride and identity.

Over the past year, this group has laid vital groundwork. From pop‑up markets that showcase artisans and local eateries to façade improvements that breathe new life into historic buildings, every initiative connects people and place. Each success builds on another—the mural on the corner, the seasonal lights downtown, the buzz during First Fridays—all powered by collaboration and community spirit.

Looking ahead, the BGVA Main Street affiliate is poised to deepen these efforts. With new partnerships forming and a renewed energy in the heart of town, Bowling Green is writing the next chapter of its Main Street story—one that blends heritage with innovation and small‑town warmth with big‑picture vision.

And that's the essence of BGVA Main Street: not simply preserving history, but making history happen every day.
